Say hello to Sarvesh Mehtani, the kingpin of the 2017 JEE Advanced, the fiercely contested exam that every year, draws hundreds of thousands of hopefuls in India. Now, working as a Quantitative Trader, Sarvesh's journey to becoming the top scorer of this grueling test is nothing short of inspiring.
Hailing from the vibrant city of Chandigarh, Sarvesh graduated from IIT Bombay with a Computer Science and Engineering degree in 2021. The man behind his successful journey? His dad, Parvesh Mehtani, an officer in the Income Tax department. The elder Mehtani aimed high for his son and shared his goal of breaking into the top ten in the highly sought-after examination.
While most would consider unwinding with a brew or two, Sarvesh's dad reveled in playing badminton, watching TV cartoons, and listening to music. Interestingly, he shared that he had always dreamed of placing in the top ten of the challenging test.
On the other side of the spectrum, meet Sarvesh's mom, Raj Bala who toiled in the industrial training department of the Haryana government. She shared that unlike most students who consider academics as a burden, Sarvesh never saw it that way. He made sure to revise his syllabus before hitting the sack each day.
Topping The Charts
Scaling the 2017 JEE Advanced wasn't a walk in the park. Traditional hours of studying averaged at five to six hours a day, and on weekends, he'd buckle down for eight to ten hours. Needless to say, Sarvesh nailed it, scoring a whopping 339 out of 366 points, securing an All India Rank of 1, which equates to about 92.62% marks.
Post his remarkable achievement, Sarvesh was admitted to IIT Bombay to pursue a B.Tech in Computer Science. His career took off from there. Sarvesh now works as a Quantitative Trader, masterminding high-frequency trading methods for financial derivatives. This just goes to show, he never let his success rest on laurels and continued learning throughout.
