Ad Standards Council Marks 50 Years of Ethical Advertising, Aims to Tackle Digital Challenges

The Ad Standards Council (ASC) marks its second year towards the 50th Anniversary of Advertising Self-Regulation. This milestone reflects five decades of commitment to ethical standards and responsible advertising in the Philippines.

In 1974, during Martial Law, the Philippine Chamber of Advertising, a coalition of agencies and companies, established the ASC. This courageous act created a self-regulatory body for Philippine advertising, fostering a system grounded in truth, fairness, and responsibility.

Today, the ASC's Code of Ethics serves as a global benchmark. However, the rise of digital media brings new challenges, such as misinformation and the need for vigilant truthfulness in advertising. The upcoming National Summit on Fair and Progressive Advertising Self-Regulation, Patas na Patalastas 2025, aims to empower advertisers to champion advertising that truly serves the public good. The summit will explore crucial topics like truth-telling, responsible influencer use, AI ethics, and marketing with care.

ASC Chair Golda Roldan and Oversight Committee Chair Jun Nicdao both stress the importance of advertisers upholding truth and ethics in the rapidly changing digital age. They emphasize the need for continued vigilance in protecting consumers.

The Ad Standards Council, celebrating its 48th year, looks towards its 50th anniversary with a shared vision of integrity and progress. The 2025 Industry Summit will help shape the next chapter of ethical advertising in the Philippines, ensuring it remains a force for good in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
