AGiL's Mentorship Project Marks 15-Year Milestone
The AGiL organization's Working Promotion Society recently celebrated the 15-year anniversary of the Mentorship Project, which supports young individuals, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, in their journeys from school to work. First Deputy District Administrator Silke Engler praised the local volunteering for their dedication, thanking them for their tireless efforts and patience.
The project began in 2008 with funding from the Robert Bosch Foundation and later the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration. Since then, around 300 mentorships, known as 'tandems for a time', have been realized. The mentors act as door openers, companions, and advisors, supporting professional orientation, finding internship or training places, and helping with application letters.
The project has also collaborated with schools in the city and region to practice job interview questions. Since 2010, around 3,300 such interviews have been conducted. To mark the anniversary, the commitment of the current 45 volunteers was honored at a celebration.
As the project looks ahead, the managers aim to recruit 15 new volunteers, preferably with a commercial-technical background or from the health and care sector. They hope these new volunteers will bring their commitment and professional experience to support the mentorship project's work, helping them continue to support young individuals in their journeys from school to work.
