Ahmedabad University's Tinkerers Lab Opens Doors to Engineering Students
Ahmedabad University's School of Engineering and Applied Science has opened a new student-managed facility, the Tinkerers Lab, offering 24/7 access to cutting-edge tools and equipment for hands-on making, prototyping, and experiential learning.
Located within the University, the Tinkerers Lab provides students with access to a range of industrial-grade equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, electronics workstations, machine tools, hand tools, and precision measurement instruments. This space empowers students to apply engineering concepts to build real solutions for academic projects, entrepreneurial ventures, and competitions.
The Tinkerers Lab is part of an academic ecosystem at Ahmedabad University that promotes active, hands-on, and experiential learning. It emphasizes a mindset of experimentation, where students learn by trying, failing, and iterating, fostering real engineering skills and creativity.
The lab is launched in collaboration with industry partners such as Maker Bhavan Foundation, AIA Engineering Ltd., and Arvind Composites, and supports various interdisciplinary and industry-linked activities including live projects, internships, LEAP boot camps, and build-a-thons.

Ahmedabad University has been recognised for its excellence in education and research. It received a 5-star rating, the highest awarded in the Gujarat State Institutional Rating Framework (GSIRF) for 2021-22 and 2023-24, by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG). The University was also awarded the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) International Award for Excellence 2024 for its University Centre.
The University has been accredited with A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and has been recognised by the Government of Gujarat as a Centre of Excellence. Ahmedabad University has also been recognised by the UGC under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, becoming one of the very few private research universities to have been awarded this recognition for select research universities.
