Bitget Expands PayFi Islands to Negros Oriental, Philippines
Bitget, a global cryptocurrency exchange, is expanding its PayFi Islands initiative to Negros Oriental, Philippines. The project aims to bridge the digital divide by providing reliable internet access to underserved communities, starting with two hubs: Apo Elementary School and the Arts and Design Collective Dumaguete (ADCD).
The PayFi Islands initiative uses Starlink satellite internet to connect these hubs, enabling access to digital learning platforms, international collaboration, and blockchain literacy training. This expansion complements Bitget's educational advocacy programs, Blockchain4Youth and Blockchain4Her, which focus on financial education and decentralized technology training. Bitget's move highlights the growing consensus in the Web3 space that true crypto adoption relies on equitable internet access. Earlier this year, the project connected the Espoir School of Life and Barangay Pitogo in Siargao with Starlink connectivity.
Bitget's PayFi Islands initiative is set to transform digital access in Negros Oriental, starting with Apo Island and Dumaguete. By providing reliable internet, the project fosters academic mobility, community empowerment, and blockchain literacy, paving the way for broader crypto adoption in the region.
