Campaign Initiated in Chandigarh: Kataria Launches Week-long Effort to Combat Illicit Substances

In an endeavor to combat the rising issue of drug abuse and safeguard the future of our young generation, Punjab Governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria kick-started a week-long initiative called "Victory Against Drug Abuse" (VADA) on the 26th of April, 2025 at PM Shri GMSSS Dhanas. This campaign, driven by the collective desire for a healthier society, sets out to establish a drug-free environment.

Kataria planted a "wish tree" on the campus, sharing his heartfelt wish for a drug-free Chandigarh.

The campaign encompasses a series of activities aimed at engaging and educating the youth, such as slogan contests and poster design competitions. There will also be interactive talks with experts, shedding light on the perils of drug abuse and promoting preventive measures.

As advocated by Kataria, the fight against drugs is not solely the government’s responsibility but a shared burden for every member in our community. He highlighted the importance of collective action to eliminate drug abuse and create a secure and drug-free setting for our youth.

Kudos to the students for their impressive mural wall, which was facilitated by their faculty. Kataria also paid a visit to the integrated room, where students with special needs are taught in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020.

The VADA campaign, stretching across the region, is an amalgamation of government bodies, educational institutions, and community organizations embarking on a mission to combat the ever-growing problem of drug abuse among the youth [2][3]. This endeavor focuses on prevention, education, and rehabilitation to empower young people to make wiser choices and move away from drug abuse [2].

Additional efforts and regional collaborations are underway to address this issue. Punjab is intensifying its anti-drug efforts, implementing extensive poster campaigns and public awareness drives across thousands of villages [4]. In neighboring regions like Haryana, leaders are emphasizing the need for all societal sectors to work together, including religious leaders, panchayats, and youth, to achieve a drug-free society [5].

As the week-long campaign unfolds, most likely, more details on the competition rules, and educational sessions' topics will be shared. Stay tuned to learn more about this exciting and essential initiative! #VictoryAgainstDrugAbuse #DrugFreeChandigarh
