Collaboration between Northwestern University (NEU) and Adelaide University strengthens in the field of sustainability
In a significant step towards promoting sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region, the National Economics University (NEU) in Vietnam and the University of Adelaide recently came together for a seminar titled "NEU and Adelaide University enhance sustainability collaboration". The event took place on August 13.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, vice president of NEU, emphasised the importance of tripartite co-creation in addressing cross-sectoral challenges. He highlighted the need for academia, policymakers, and businesses to work together to develop effective solutions.
NEU, with its expertise in economic policy and environmental governance, and Adelaide University, with its sustainable green transition signature research theme, multidisciplinary research in energy, biodiversity, and climate resilience, are ideally positioned to lead this collaborative effort.
The partnership between the two universities aims to advance sustainable futures in the region. Adelaide University, with its advanced capabilities in green finance, law, and entrepreneurship, and NEU's focus on training future leaders in sustainability and economics, will undoubtedly contribute to this shared goal.
The food and beverages industry in Vietnam is demonstrating a shift towards sustainable practices, with many companies adopting sustainable packaging to strengthen competitiveness and meet market demand. NEU's strong links to government and industry for policy translation will undoubtedly aid in the implementation of sustainable practices across sectors.
The seminar introduced the latest research results and practical experiences from both universities. It also aimed to promote joint initiatives and practical applications supporting Vietnam's shift to a low-carbon economy. Green industrial parks offer a solution to ESG challenges for next-generation businesses, and the seminar highlighted the role of these parks in Vietnam's sustainable development.
The seminar also included a panel discussion on practical initiatives and collaboration opportunities in Vietnam. The event brought together representatives from universities, government agencies, and enterprises, underscoring the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.
In addition, NEU and Adelaide University are developing a Bachelor's programme in environmental technology and sustainable development. NEU's emerging research in climate finance, urban sustainability, and low-carbon governance will undoubtedly contribute to the success of this programme.
