Commencing education and professional development at the Lörrach Central Customs Office

The Main Customs Office Lörrach is gearing up for a significant expansion, with more than 1,700 young people set to join the ranks on September 1, 2025. Among them, 42 will be starting their careers at the Lörrach office.

The recruitment drive is part of a larger nationwide initiative by CUSTOMS, which offers a wide range of employment opportunities. From goods clearance and control to case processing in tax or enforcement matters, the roles span various sectors. Special units, monitoring undeclared work, customs investigation, and more are all part of the diverse portfolio.

The application process, training, and study opportunities for CUSTOMS can be found at www.zoll-karriere.de. The website provides detailed information about the Main Customs Office Lörrach, including contact information, which can also be found on the main customs website, www.zoll.de.

The theoretical training for the higher service is completed at the Federal Administrative Academy in Münster, while in the middle service, it is completed in Sigmaringen. The training in the middle service at the Main Customs Office Lörrach lasts two years and qualifies for the professional title of tax administrator. The dual course of study at the Main Customs Office Lörrach lasts three years and concludes with the academic degree "Bachelor of Laws" (LL.B.; CUSTOMS).

CUSTOMS will continue to offer training and study places, including in the field of administrative informatics, in the coming years. The application deadline for positions starting on September 1, 2026, is October 15, 2025. Interested parties can apply for a position starting on September 1, 2026, until October 15, 2025, at the Main Customs Office Lörrach for both higher and middle customs service, or at the General Customs Directorate for administrative informatics.

Matthias Heuser, head of the Main Customs Office Lörrach, emphasized the importance of committing to the liberal democratic basic order in his welcoming speech. He underscored the need for young customs officers to uphold these values in their future roles.

Practical phases of the young customs officers take place in various departments and customs offices of the Main Customs Office Lörrach at locations in the district of Lörrach, Freiburg, Ortenaukreis, Customs Investigation Office Stuttgart, and suitable areas of the General Customs Directorate at the location in Freiburg. Theory and practice alternate and build on each other in the dual course of study and training at the Main Customs Office Lörrach.
