District committee to assess contribution of $9,999 for male guidance initiative
In a bid to support the growth and development of students, Proxyware, a McLean-based company, has donated $9,999 to Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). The donation, received on September 2, will be used to advance the male mentoring initiatives at Patrick Henry K-8 School and Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 School.
The mentoring initiative, led by Assistant Principal Jerome Graham (from Patrick Henry), School Counselor Brian Nelson, and Dean of Students Andre Keys (from Jefferson-Houston), aims to create a supportive environment for students by focusing on male mentoring. Its purpose is to provide students with experiences outside of Alexandria, build positive relationships, and strengthen social emotional skills.
According to ACPS, the funds will be utilised to further the mentoring initiative's goals. The initiative is part of an effort to build positive relationships and strengthen social emotional skills among students, without any specific focus on a particular subject or academic area.
The school board, which must approve any donations over $5,000, has been considering this donation. The donation was handed over by Salvatore Drew, a representative from Proxyware.
The mentoring initiative does not involve any additional student loans beyond the initial $9,999 donation from Proxyware. It's important to note that, while the initiative does not seem to have any specific geographical locations outside of Alexandria, it provides students with experiences beyond their city limits as part of its purpose.
