Ducsu Elections: Thirteen Potential Candidates Secure Nomination Forms on Second Day of Availability
The preparatory phase for the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election is in full swing, with student organizations' objections regarding the posts of the president and treasurer having been addressed in accordance with the constitution.
As of August 12, a total of 658 nomination forms were collected from students intending to run in the election. Out of these, 509 nomination papers were formally submitted to the election office. Notably, 129 nomination forms were collected but not submitted as papers by the deadline.
The competition for the election features candidates from various panels and some independent candidates vying for 28 positions in the central students’ parliament. The collection of nomination forms has been made from 18 halls over the past two days for the hall union elections as well.
At a press briefing held this afternoon (12 August) at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, Ducsu Chief Election Commissioner Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin announced that seven individuals, including two for the post of vice-president (VP), had collected nomination forms on that day. Four aspirants have submitted their nomination papers so far.
No allegations of code of conduct violations have been reported against any aspirant as of yet. The collection of nomination forms is for the DUCSU election process, with three aspirants having collected nomination forms for the post of vice-president (VP).
The election is scheduled to take place on September 9, 2025, marking an important step in the democratic process of Dhaka University. The collection of nomination forms is ongoing, and the number of candidates is expected to grow as the deadline approaches.
