Ed-tech company EpiTek gets acquired by digital learning startup Rekindle, broadening its horizons
In a significant move for the ed-tech industry in Africa, digital learning company Rekindle Learning has announced the acquisition of software-as-a-service (SaaS) startup EpiTek. The deal, which took place in 2022, marks a new chapter for both companies and promises to redefine skills development across the continent.
Rekindle Learning, founded in 2014 in South Africa, has been a pioneer in digital learning solutions, tailoring its offerings to meet the unique training needs of Africa's workforce. The company's mission is to provide facilitated live classrooms for learning, making education accessible and engaging for all.
EpiTek, launched in 2021, has also made a mark with its innovative ed-tech solutions. The startup offers a platform for work-based learning programmes, AI for invigilated assessments, and analytics and reporting in one integrated system.
The acquisition of EpiTek by Rekindle Learning is a strategic move that aims to strengthen both companies' positions in the African market. Sally Nhlanhla, CEO of Rekindle Learning, stated that the deal is about redefining skills development in Africa. Matthew Scott, CEO of EpiTek, considers the deal as an exciting evolution for his company.
The combined entity, now known as Rekindle EpiTek, will manage the entire training journey, from bite-sized learning to formal certification. Rekindle EpiTek is equipped to meet the continent's training and skills development needs at scale.
One of the key advantages of Rekindle EpiTek is its ability to cater to both accredited and non-accredited skills development providers. This makes it a versatile solution for a wide range of organisations and individuals seeking to upskill or reskill their workforce.
Rekindle EpiTek's solutions are designed by Africans, for Africans, reflecting the company's commitment to addressing the continent's unique challenges and opportunities in the realm of education and training. The acquisition of EpiTek further strengthens this commitment, as both companies share a vision of meeting the formalised training needs of Africa's evolving workforce.
As Rekindle Learning post-acquisition positions itself as a high-impact African tech company, the future of skills development in Africa looks promising. With Rekindle EpiTek at the forefront, the continent is well-equipped to meet the demands of the 21st-century workforce and drive economic growth and development.
