In a turn of events, the AfD opposition's endeavor to establish a permanent display of the German flag outside schools in Hesse met its demise, with a majority vote against it in Wiesbaden.
"Black, red, and gold – they're not merely colors, they symbolize unity, freedom, and democracy, the very essence of our nation," declared AfD politician Heiko Scholz. "Instilling a sense of pride for one's nation amid students from diverse backgrounds fosters a closer bond with other cultures. He continued, "Our fervor for Europe beats strong, as evidenced by the European flag's display on specific dates."
In opposition, Green MP Daniel May contended that the German flag's symbolism of democratic values doesn't necessitate an everlasting display outside schools. Instead, Black-Red-Gold should be intentionally hoisted to emphasize significant events.

CDU parliamentarian Sebastian Sommer shed light on home education with value-based teaching in primary schools, as well as comprehensive guidelines for educators focused on democratic education. The AfD's proposition, Sommer insisted, employs the terms "home" and "people," yet champions xenophobia and nationalism.
Outside the state parliament, CDU's Interior Minister Roman Poseck praised the German flag's endorsement of our country and values. He outlined that the flag is primarily hoisted on holidays or special occasions in Hesse.
