Facebook & UWaterloo Partner to Shape Future of Learning with AI

Facebook and the University of Waterloo have joined forces to explore the future of learning and work readiness, with a strategic partnership that combines Facebook's AI expertise and the University of Waterloo's educational leadership. The collaboration aims to create transformative learning experiences for students.

The partnership will see the establishment of the Futures Lab: An AI Prototyping Workshop. Here, interdisciplinary student teams will build new, AI-powered learning prototypes. The first workshop is set for October 6, with students co-developing cutting-edge prototypes and receiving direct feedback.

Professor Edith Law, an esteemed Computer Science professor and Executive Director of the University of Waterloo's Future of Work Institute, has been appointed as the inaugural Facebook Chair in the Future of Work and Learning. Facebook is contributing $1 million CAD to fund this chair.

Facebook has a history of working with the University of Waterloo, including co-creating the Kids on Campus program and providing funding for the Women in Computer Science (WiCS) program. The University of Waterloo's co-op program has also been praised for teaching the value of hands-on, experiential learning by an alumnus who has experienced its impact on their career.

Through this strategic partnership, Facebook and the University of Waterloo aim to shape the future of learning and work readiness. With the establishment of the Futures Lab and the Facebook Chair in the Future of Work and Learning, students will have the opportunity to engage with AI technologies and gain real-world experience, preparing them for the jobs of tomorrow.
