First Cases of Lifelong COVID-19 Infection Reported as Europe Tightens Lockdowns

American doctors have reported the first instances of lifelong COVID-19 infection. Meanwhile, in Spain, the king's sisters have sparked controversy by receiving vaccines out of turn. In Italy, COVID-19 survivors are being vaccinated with one dose, while Ukraine faces vaccination disruptions due to rising hospitalizations. Across Europe, lockdowns are tightening again, with curfews and gathering restrictions in place.

Scientists have identified blood group A as the most vulnerable to COVID-19. A prolonged presence of the coronavirus in the body increases the risk of mutations and resistance to human antibodies. Patients with immune system diseases are at a higher risk of infection and slower recovery. In some cases, traces of the virus have persisted for half a year in patients with leukemia.

In response to the ongoing pandemic, the Ministry of Health of Spain proposes closing borders between autonomous communities and limiting public gatherings during Holy Week. Travel restrictions are being implemented, with exceptions for medical appointments and work, and a PCR test is recommended before such trips. Ukrainian vaccination efforts have been disrupted due to a sharp increase in hospitalizations.

The discovery of lifelong COVID-19 infections and the vulnerability of blood group A individuals underscore the ongoing nature of the pandemic. The actions taken by European countries, including Spain and Ukraine, reflect the need for continued vigilance and adaptive measures to combat the virus.
