ForestSchool Training: Advancement from Level 2 to Level 3 (November 2025)

In May and October 2025, Suffolk Wildlife Trust is set to host a Level 3 Forest School Leader Top-Up course at Foxburrow Nature Reserve, IP12 1NA. This course, designed to develop leadership, facilitation, practical, and teaching skills for participants, aims to top up Level 2 Forest School Assistant qualifications, allowing individuals to lead a Forest School programme as a Level 3 Forest School Leader.

Course Structure

The course consists of five units: Practical Skills, Planning and Preparation, Woodland Environment, Delivery, and Learning and Development. The course requires 16-hour first aid training, which is offered for an additional £200. The course hours are 9:30am - 5:30pm each day, with an exception on day 4 where the end time will be 8pm.

Location and Cost

The course will take place at Foxburrow Nature Reserve, where hot drinks, all required paperwork, and all tools and equipment for outdoor tasks will be provided. The cost of the course is £785, with the option to pay in instalments.

Entry Criteria

To participate, you must be over 21, have recent experience of assisting at Forest School, provide a copy of your Forest School Level 2 Assistant certificate on the first day of the course, demonstrate the ability to deliver a six-session Forest School pilot programme during training, hold a First Aid certificate, and meet other specified requirements.

Course Layout

The course layout includes face-to-face training, coursework portfolio, planning and delivering a six-week Forest School programme, mentoring days, and a support visit. The guided learning hours for the qualification are 155, and the total qualification time is 180 hours.

Submitting Coursework

All coursework will be submitted and marked via the Moodle platform. Hand-in dates for coursework are set at regular intervals throughout the 12 months following the teaching days. Participants are asked not to bring their own tools.

The Level 3 top-up course is facilitated by Forest School Association (FSA) Registered Forest School Trainers.
