Funding of 15 million euros earmarked for contemporary civic infrastructure upgrades

The Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, and Tourism, has announced a funding call for municipalities, districts, and communal facilities in Baden-Württemberg. The aim is to expand and modernize their innovation infrastructures, as part of the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) Baden-Württemberg program.

A total of 15 million euros has been allocated for this purpose, with the funding supporting the acquisition of future-oriented, local infrastructure components and the optimization and upgrading of existing infrastructures. The focus is on modernization and expansion of innovation, startup, technology, and transfer centers across the state.

The funding is aligned with the Innovation Strategy Baden-Württemberg and the European Union has allocated approximately 279 million euros to Baden-Württemberg from the Funding Period 2021 to 2027. The EFRE program in Baden-Württemberg supports the focus areas of future technologies and competencies, as well as resource and climate protection.

The infrastructures should be able to expand their spatial and technical possibilities, including for experimental application environments. Modern technical equipment to support future-oriented work and research environments may also be funded. The aim is to concentrate collaboration, networking, and knowledge transfer of companies in these centers.

Applications for funding can be submitted from now until December 19, 2025. The deadline for applications remains until the same date. The minister emphasized that improving location conditions in all regions of the state is important to generate economic growth and ensure the competitiveness of companies in the state.

Specific places in Baden-Württemberg receiving EFRE funding for modernization and expansion of municipal innovation infrastructures between September and December 2025 are not explicitly listed; however, the funding program offers 15 million euros for upgrading local innovation, start-up, technology, and transfer centers statewide, with applications open until December 19, 2025.

The call fits seamlessly into the Innovation Strategy of the State, with the focus on intelligent technologies, such as artificial intelligence and smart building solutions, being conceivable through the funding. The funding of improved infrastructures should optimally support innovative services and innovation management.

Investments in these areas are expected to boost economic growth and competitiveness in Baden-Württemberg, making it an attractive destination for businesses and innovators alike.
