"Gathering for a collaborative school project": Focus meeting held at Lusan Education Campus
The city of Jena is witnessing a significant development in its educational landscape with the construction of the Lusan Education Campus. Mayor Kurt Dannenberg has expressed his belief that this project will be a significant enrichment for the entire region.
At the heart of the Lusan Education Campus is the comprehensive school, guided by the principle of 'Making school together well'. The school, currently undergoing steady progress, will be a three-wing comprehensive school with 450 school places.
The first phase of the project includes the construction of a two-court sports hall with 200 spectator seats. This state-of-the-art facility is being built alongside a spacious, multifunctional outdoor area, providing ample space for various activities.
The topping-out ceremony for the renovation and expansion of the comprehensive school 'Die Vierte' took place on 12th September 2025. Work on the building shell, including window and roof sealing, as well as the installation of the thermal insulation composite system, has begun. The completion of the first construction phase for the comprehensive school 'Die Vierte' is planned for approximately one year.
The city is investing approximately 35 million euros in the education campus. Around 17.5 million euros in funding for the project has been secured from the federal government, the Free State of Thuringia, and the European Union.
In a second construction phase, the Wilhelm-Busch Elementary School will be expanded. This comprehensive development is not just about building schools; it's about improving the quality of life on site and future-proofing the educational landscape.
The Lusan Education Campus, being built in the city of Jena, is a strong signal for the city's commitment to providing excellent educational facilities and fostering a vibrant, engaged community.
