Germans Boost Moving Image Media Use to 196 Minutes Daily
Germans are spending more time daily with moving image media, with an 89.1 percent daily usage rate, up from 85.9 percent last year. This increase is driven by a rise in video and story consumption on social media, now at 22.0 percent, and a surge in media libraries' popularity, reaching 12.2 percent.
Social media videos and stories have seen a significant boost in daily reach, jumping from 19.5 percent to 22.0 percent. Meanwhile, streaming services' reach has slightly decreased to 25.0 percent, but their usage time remains steady at 33 minutes per day. Overall, the daily usage time of all moving image media has increased to 196 minutes, up from 194 minutes in 2024.
Linear TV's reach has also grown, up to 58.7 percent, but its usage time has decreased to 117 minutes. Among the 30 to 49 age group, YouTube leads with 72 percent reach, followed by public broadcasters ARD and ZDF at 61 percent each. Private streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix trail at 53 percent and 50 percent, respectively. Media libraries' reach has grown to 12.2 percent, with a usage time of 10 minutes per day. Music streaming services' reach has also increased to 21.7 percent, with users spending 25 minutes daily on these platforms.
Linear radio's reach has fallen to 61.6 percent, with a usage time of 112 minutes. Podcasts, however, have seen a rise in reach to 11.7 percent, with listeners spending 9 minutes daily. YouTube's reach has grown to 23.8 percent, with users spending 23 minutes per day on the platform.
The German-speaking population's appetite for moving image media continues to grow, with social media videos and stories, media libraries, and podcasts driving this increase. Despite a slight decrease in streaming services' reach, overall usage time remains high. Linear TV's reach has grown, but its usage time has decreased. Among the 30 to 49 age group, public broadcasters have surpassed major private providers in usage. As media consumption habits evolve, Germans are embracing a diverse range of platforms and content.
