Ghana's Dikan introduces the "HerPress" Scholarship aimed at bolstering the careers of female journalists within the country

The Dikan Center is launching an exciting new initiative called HerPress, a 3-month program designed to empower and support early to mid-career women journalists in Ghana. The program aims to address the underrepresentation of women's perspectives in critical stories and the media landscape, and to amplify underreported issues such as gender-based violence, human rights, and public health.

The program consists of monthly workshops on investigative journalism, leadership, safety, and community reporting, and each participant will receive one-on-one mentorship. Fellows will produce original journalism projects, and a stipend will be provided to support them during the program.

The program will culminate in the HerPress Summit, a gathering of women journalists from across Ghana to collaborate and showcase their work. The summit is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2025, at The Mix Design Hub in Osu, Accra.

The HerPress program is supported by the Australian High Commission in Ghana and features a speaker series with local and international journalists. The goal is to create a supportive community of women journalists who can take on leadership roles and tell critical stories that matter.

The deadline to apply for the program is June 7, 2025. You can find the application link here. Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of a pioneering initiative in Ghana’s media sector that aims to elevate women’s voices.

  1. In this HerPress program, women journalists will benefit from a range of topics, including science, health-and-wellness, and women's health, as part of the workshops on community reporting.
  2. Aiming to bring attention to underreported issues like gender-based violence, human rights, public health, and education-and-self-development, the HerPress program encourages fellows to explore these themes while producing their original journalism projects.
