In a shocking incident reported on Monday, 18 August, six 16-year-old Form 4 students were arrested for bullying and assaulting a classmate. The disturbing event unfolded at a location within the school, where the bullies reportedly almost strangled the victim with a wire.

According to Berita Harian, the police have applied for the remand of the arrested students this morning. The Pasir Mas police chief, Kama Azural Mohamed, confirmed the arrests.

The victim's aunt took to Facebook to share the harrowing details of the incident, stating that her nephew was slapped, beaten, and had his pants pulled down at 10am. She also expressed her gratitude towards the teacher who passed by the area and intervened, potentially preventing further harm and possibly saving the victim's life.

The families of the six students have reportedly visited the victim's parents and asked them to withdraw the case. However, the exact penalties for these individuals have not been explicitly detailed in the available reports.

The Ministry of Education has consistently enforced suspensions and issued warnings in similar cases to ensure school safety and address the misconduct. Additional measures, such as increased surveillance through CCTV, more wardens in school hostels, and nationwide anti-bullying campaigns, are also being implemented to prevent recurrence and foster a safer environment.

Counseling and rehabilitation form part of the approach to help students change their behaviour and instill positive values after such incidents. It is hoped that these measures will not only bring justice for the victim but also serve as a deterrent for future bullying incidents.

A statement on the matter will be issued by the police later. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for continuous efforts to combat bullying and promote a culture of respect and empathy in our schools.
