International Support Grows for Youth-Led Actions in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals Worldwide

In the heart of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, the Centre for Youth and Social Development (CYMS) marked International Youth Day 2025 with a resounding affirmation of its commitment to youth empowerment.

According to the CYMS founder, Nwaka, the future belongs to the young hands and bold hearts who are shaping it today. He urged for increased investment in young people, providing them with platforms, resources, and policies to thrive.

CYMS's mission, as always, is to empower Nigerian youth as key drivers of societal transformation. This empowerment is achieved through continued advocacy, capacity-building programmes, and nationwide outreach.

The organisation commends the commitment, passion, and achievements of the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, who is praised for developing and empowering young thugs nationwide to tackle community-based challenges. Olawande has been hailed as the best Youth Minister in Nigeria's history.

This year's International Youth Day theme, 'Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond', resonates with CYMS's message. The organisation has unveiled a lineup of nationwide activities aimed at deepening youth involvement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda.

These activities include youth town halls, intergenerational dialogues, leadership training sessions, digital literacy workshops, and innovation showcases across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

CYMS believes that local action is the foundation of sustainable change and a strong catalyst for achieving the SDGs. They encourage stakeholders, including government institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, and development partners, to increase support for youth-led initiatives.

Young Nigerians have made remarkable contributions in fields such as climate resilience, digital innovation, gender equality, peacebuilding, and entrepreneurship. CYMS celebrates the potential of local youth activity to deliver global progress.

The power to shape Nigeria's future, as Nwaka stated, lies with the youth. CYMS remains dedicated to inclusive, sustainable, and youth-centered policies and programs, nurturing informed, empowered, and action-oriented young Nigerians.
