Journalism Frontiers 2021: Exploring Subjects, Direction, and Innovations in the News Industry
Scoopcamp 2021, a two-day conference focusing on news consumption, news literacy, and digital transformation, is set to take place on September 15 and 16. Organised by nextMedia.Hamburg and the German Press Agency (dpa), the event will be held as a hybrid event at Designport in HafenCity and as a free livestream.
The first day of the conference will delve into news consumption and news literacy among young people. Alan Rusbridger, former editor-in-chief of The Guardian, will give a keynote speech. Stefan Voß, Verification Officer at dpa, will lead a workshop on fact-checking, providing valuable insights into this crucial aspect of journalism. Mirko Drotschmann and Jochen Wegner will discuss the influence of influencers on young people's opinion formation.
Day tickets for on-site participation at the Designport on the second conference day cost 99 euros. The second day will focus on the digital transformation in journalism. Pia Frey, founder of Opinary and Scoop Award winner, will give a keynote on the opportunities in this digital shift. Climate journalist Sara Schurmann will explain how to make the climate crisis tangible and interesting.
The conference is also supported by the Schoepflin Foundation and the Zeit Foundation, as well as media partners Civey, NOZ Medien, Zeit Online, and Meedia. A study titled "When Would Germans Pay More for Journalism?" is mentioned, adding to the conference's focus on the evolving landscape of journalism.
