Kate Middleton's Film Series Highlights Importance of Early Childhood Development
Kate Middleton's new six-part film series, launched by her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, focuses on transforming societies for the better by nurturing skills in babies and children. The animated series, available on the Centre's YouTube channel, uses brain science to highlight the importance of nurturing social and emotional skills during early years.
The series covers key topics such as growing an emotionally healthy brain, managing feelings, building resilience, fostering healthy communication, supporting early learning, and creating space for connection between children and caregivers. These skills are fundamental for forming healthy relationships and lifelong wellbeing.
Princess Kate emphasizes that core social and emotional skills are essential in forming healthy relationships. She states that these skills are fundamental building blocks that can carry children through life. The films are designed for use by early years professionals, charities, families, and caregivers, aiming to raise awareness of everyday nurturing interactions that support children's development and prepare them better for the future.
The introductory film has been animated by & Orange, and Maggie Stephenson, the artist behind the Shaping Us Framework, has illustrated it. Making Pictures produced the introductory film. Kate Middleton was closely involved in the development process, participating in creative workshops with illustrators and early childhood practitioners.
The film series aims to create a foundation for lifelong learning in young children, promote understanding of the importance of nurturing interactions in early childhood, and inspire a societal shift towards nurturing and supporting young children. It also aims to help recognize and manage emotions in young children, build resilience and emotional regulation, foster healthy communication and relationships, and raise a younger generation better equipped to face the future.
The series has been translated into Welsh and British Sign Language to make it accessible to a wider audience. With its focus on early childhood development, the statement highlights the role of these formative years in shaping a healthier and happier society. The film series aims to inspire a brighter future for children and, in turn, for society as a whole.
