Labour Unveils 2030 Energy Plan: Boost Renewables, Create Public Clean Energy Company

Labour has revealed ambitious plans to transform the UK's energy sector. By 2030, the party aims to substantially increase renewable energy capacity and establish a publicly owned clean energy company, Great British Energy.

Labour's vision includes investing in at least 5 gigawatts (GW) of floating offshore wind, doubling onshore wind capacity to 35 GW, and tripling solar power to 50 GW. The party aims to make the UK a global leader in floating offshore wind and other renewable energy sources through Great British Energy.

Sir Keir Starmer, Labour leader, has criticized the Tories for their energy policies. He argues that scrapping investment in home insulation, stalling nuclear energy, and banning onshore wind have led to increased energy bills and higher borrowing without new infrastructure. To combat this, a Labour government plans to upgrade insulation in British homes to save households and businesses on their energy bills.

Labour also intends to introduce a 'proper' windfall tax on the excess profits of oil and gas companies. This tax will help support families with the rising cost of living. Great British Energy, the publicly owned clean energy company, will be owned, built, and benefit the British people, reducing energy bills and reliance on foreign fuel imports.

By 2030, Labour plans to significantly increase the UK's renewable energy capacity and create Great British Energy, a publicly owned clean energy company. These moves aim to lower energy bills, reduce reliance on foreign fuel imports, and make the UK a world leader in renewable energy.
