Left-wing alliance unveils committee in anticipation of Ducsu elections
The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections are heating up, with multiple student organizations and coalitions announcing their candidates for various positions.
On August 20, a press conference was held at Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus, where several panels announced their candidates. One of these panels is a left coalition, which includes the Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Socialist Students' Front, Biplobi Chhatra Moitri, Chhatra Council, Chhatra Juba Andolon, Pahari Chhatra Parishad, and Gonotantrik Chhatra Moncho.
Enamul Hasan Onoy from the Department of Political Science has been nominated for the position of general secretary (GS) in this left coalition. Sheikh Tasnim Afroz Emi, former vice-president of Shamsun Nahar Hall Students' Union, is leading the coalition and is running for the position of vice president (VP). Naim Hasan Hridoy from the Department of Communication Disorders has been nominated for the position of vice president (VP), while Md Jabir Ahmed Jubel, general secretary of Biplobi Chhatra Moitri, will contest for assistant general secretary (AGS).
Another left coalition, named 'Aparajeyo 71-Odomyo 24', has also announced their panel for the Ducsu elections. Meghmallar Bosu, Dhaka University unit president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, has been nominated for the position of general secretary (GS) in this coalition. Aditi Islam from the Department of Philosophy has been nominated for the position of assistant general secretary (AGS).
In addition, another panel, Chhatra Federation, has announced a partial 11-member panel with Armanul Hoque nominated for AGS.
Interestingly, the coalition includes a faction of the Bangladesh Students' Union (BSU), Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and Bangladesh Chhatra League-BCL (student wing of Bangladesh Jasad). The organization that announced a candidate list for the Ducsu elections on August 20 at Madhur Canteen on campus is Islami Chhatra Shibir. They revealed a full 28-member panel including ethnic minorities and students from diverse backgrounds.
More names will be added to the 15-member panel of the latest left coalition later. The exact date for the Ducsu elections has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Ducsu elections.
