Library in Campbell County resumes Spotlight Series from August 7 onward

The Campbell County Public Library is excited to announce the return of its Spotlight Series, a captivating event that delves into the rich history of the local and regional community. The series will take place at the Newport Branch (901 E. Sixth St., Newport) on three consecutive Thursdays in August: the 7th, 14th, and 21st, all starting at 7 p.m.

On August 7, Bob Hamilton will take the stage to discuss the history of trains in Kentucky. With a mix of video footage and museum artifacts, Hamilton's presentation promises to be an engaging exploration of this significant aspect of the region's past.

On August 14, the focus shifts to the history of historical societies, with Dr. Daniel Gifford presenting on the founding era of The Filson Historical Society of Kentucky. Gifford's talk will cover both the society's accomplishments and the challenges it faced during its inception.

The series reaches its climax on August 21, with J.T. Townsend providing a closer look at a significant moment in Cincinnati's history. Townsend, an investigator of the dark side of history, will discuss the infamous serial killer known as the Cincinnati Strangler, Wade Wilson. Although the exact number of Wilson's victims and the timeframe of his crimes are not fully documented, his connection to multiple strangulation murders in Cincinnati makes for a compelling story.

For those interested in attending these events, they can find more information on the Campbell County Public Library's website (cc-pl.org/spotlight-series-25). Additionally, on August 14, Bob Hamilton's presentation will not be held at the Newport Branch but at the La Grange Railroad Museum instead.

The Spotlight Series is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the local and regional history, and we encourage everyone to join us for these informative and engaging events.
