MBZUAI Honors Faculty for 2026: Segal, Khan, Aji, Beltrame, Xia, and Horváth Recognized

Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has announced its faculty award winners for 2026. The recipients, recognised for their outstanding contributions in research, innovation, and mentorship, include Professor Eran Segal, Associate Professor Salman Khan, and Assistant Professor Alham Fikri Aji, among others. Additionally, Assistant Professor Yova Kementchedjhieva from another institution has been honoured for promoting inclusion and collaboration.

Professor Eran Segal, the leader of MBZUAI's School of Digital Public Health and the Health Promotion Program (HPP) initiative, received the Provost's Award for Faculty Excellence. Segal's dedication to digital health and public well-being has significantly impacted the university's research and teaching landscape.

Assistant Professor Eduardo Beltrame was recognised with the Exemplary University Service Award for his exceptional work in Computational Biology programs and community initiatives. Beltrame's commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and outreach has strengthened MBZUAI's ties with local and international scientific communities.

Associate Professor Salman Khan earned the Distinguished Research Award for his groundbreaking work on multimodal AI models in Earth observation. Khan's innovative approaches to data analysis and interpretation have opened new avenues for environmental monitoring and climate research.

Assistant Professor Alham Fikri Aji was honoured with the Early Career Researcher Award for his outstanding contributions to low-resource natural language processing (NLP) and cross-border collaborations. Aji's work focuses on developing AI solutions for languages with limited digital resources, fostering global linguistic equity.

Associate Professor Gus Xia received the Innovation and Technology Transfer Award for his pioneering work in Music AI and the Audiomatic startup. Xia's innovations in AI-driven music composition and production have transformed the music industry and inspired new creative possibilities.

Assistant Professor Samuel Horváth was recognised for Excellence in Graduate Student Mentorship. Horváth's dedication to nurturing the next generation of AI researchers has resulted in numerous successful theses and alumni achievements.

These awards celebrate MBZUAI's commitment to fostering a vibrant and innovative academic community. The recipients' exceptional work in research, service, and mentorship continues to push the boundaries of AI and its applications, aligning with the university's mission to advance artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity.
