Mobile Library Sets Up Shop at Kitchener Park
The Literacy Bike: A Summer Reading Adventure in Waterloo-Wellington
This summer, Victoria Park in Waterloo-Wellington will be home to a unique and engaging educational initiative: The Literacy Bike.
The Literacy Bike, a project of the Project READ Literacy Network, is a mobile library on wheels, towed by a red bike, and equipped with educational games and books. Emily Davidson, a summer student with the program, explains that the Literacy Bike offers children an opportunity to continue reading and developing their skills over the summer months.
Families are warmly invited to stop by the Literacy Bike to read a book and participate in free activities. The Literacy Bike's schedule is accessible every Monday to Friday during the summer, with visits available from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesdays.
However, it's essential to keep an eye on the weather forecast, as the Literacy Bike's operating hours are subject to weather conditions. Followers are encouraged to check the Literacy Bike's social media accounts for the latest updates regarding weather conditions and visit cancellations.
On Fridays, special events with authors may take place at the Literacy Bike. For instance, on August 12, 2025, near Bloc Café[2], authors Ashley and Breanna Bolliger visited the Literacy Bike to read their story, 'Carrie Can Fly Too.'
The Literacy Bike has different themes for each day, such as fairytales and pirates, making each visit an exciting adventure. The program will conclude on Aug. 22.
Visiting the Literacy Bike is a fun and easy way for children to keep their minds active throughout the summer. There's no need for appointments or registration – just drop by Victoria Park and explore the Literacy Bike's collection of books and games.
So, whether you're looking for a new book to read, a fun activity to do with the kids, or a way to support literacy in your community, the Literacy Bike is the perfect destination this summer. Just remember to check the weather forecast and the Literacy Bike's social media accounts before your visit!
- Families can also discover enriching lifestyle content, as the Literacy Bike features books from various genres, such as home-and-garden and education-and-self-development, alongside news and fairytales.
- To stay updated on special events like author visits and theme days, people can follow the Literacy Bike's social media accounts for news and lifestyle updates, in addition to finding out about book interactions and learning opportunities.
