Neue Oberschule Expansion Begins: 50 More Students, Modern Facilities by 2028
A breaking news ceremony marked the start of a significant expansion project at the Neue Oberschule in Brunswick. The city, in collaboration with an unnamed company, aims to accommodate 50 more students and modernise facilities. The project, valued at approximately 32.3 million euros, is set to be completed by the 2027/2028 school year.
Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum officiated the groundbreaking on Monday, September 29th. The new building will house 24 general classrooms, five seminar rooms, three chemistry labs, and additional support spaces, along with restrooms. The existing structure will see biology, IT, and physics labs upgraded, and a new cafeteria area created.
Hochtief PPP Schulpartner Braunschweig GmbH is involved in the project, taking over operational management post-completion. The extension will be barrier-free, connected to the existing building, and feature climate protection measures like a photovoltaic system and green roofs. The project receives support from the KfW with a grant of around 1.5 million euros from the 'Climate-friendly New Building' funding program.
The expansion of the Neue Oberschule gymnasium is expected to enhance learning conditions for students and promote sustainability. Upon completion in the 2027/2028 school year, the new building will provide space for 50 more students and boast modernised facilities.
