NYC Expands Digital Inclusion Efforts, Extending Big Apple Connect Program
New York City is expanding its digital inclusion efforts. The Adams administration has extended the Big Apple Connect program for another three years, building on existing broadband initiatives like Liberty Link and a $2.4 million digital equity investment.
Before Big Apple Connect, nearly 40% of public housing residents struggled with broadband access. Since its launch in 2022, the program has provided free internet and cable service to over 150,000 households and 330,000 residents.
The new agreement includes funding for digital literacy training and an online digital literacy hub. This will help residents develop the skills needed to make the most of their new connections.
The extension of Big Apple Connect demonstrates the city's commitment to bridging the digital divide. With continued support, more residents will gain access to the internet and the opportunities it provides.
