Online Application for Scholarship Program for Students Hailing from Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh: Criteria and Rewards Detailed
The Central Government has launched the Special Scholarship Scheme for Students of Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh (SSSJ&KL) under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Yojana. This initiative offers 5000 scholarships annually to eligible candidates from the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
The scholarships are designed to provide financial aid for academic fees and maintenance allowances. For General Degree Courses, there are 2070 scholarships available, while 2830 scholarships are allocated for Professional/Engineering courses. A total of 100 scholarships are reserved for Medical Courses.
To be eligible for the SSSJ&KL scholarship, candidates must be domicile of the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh and have passed the 12th examination from JKBOSE or CBSE affiliated schools. Candidates seeking lateral entry must have passed a Diploma in Engineering from the Polytechnic Institutes recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
The scholarship is offered to students who have secured admission in a Government Institute/College and have an annual family income of less than 8 lakhs. For Medical/BDS or equivalent Medical Stream, the scholarship amount is Rs. 3.00 Lakh. For Medical Courses, the scholarship amount is Rs. 1.25 Lakh.
Scholarship recipients must maintain good conduct and regular attendance to renew their scholarships in subsequent classes. In case a scholar is unable to appear in the annual examination due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, the scholarship may be renewed for the next academic year on submission of a medical certificate and other proof. Admission under the scholarship is only for candidates who have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination in the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25.
It is important to note that students who fail to get promoted to the next class/level would receive the scholarship in the following year, but if they fail again for the second time, they would forfeit the scholarship.
