Pampanga's CLMA holds its seventh student journalism training workshop
In a bid to support the next generation of journalists and promote a culture of truth and integrity in campus journalism, the Central Luzon Media Association (CLMA) Pampanga Chapter hosted its 7th Campus Journalism Workshop. The event, which took place on July 16 at the University of the Assumption in San Fernando, aimed to provide learning, mentorship, and hands-on media training for aspiring campus journalists[1].
The workshop was spearheaded by CLMA Pampanga President Mark Allen Sison and attended by seasoned media practitioners from the province, including CLMA Executive Vice President Albert Lacanlale, Chairman Boy Santiago, and Chairman Emeritus Caesar "Bong" Lacson[2].
Gracie Rutao, a member of ABS-CBN, and Luisse Gabrielle Rutao, from GMA News, shared their knowledge on broadcast journalism and experiences from inside the newsroom. They offered insights into the world of journalism, providing valuable lessons for the aspiring journalists in attendance[2].
Lacanlale discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence in journalism, highlighting both the opportunities and ethical considerations for its use in reporting[2]. Meanwhile, Lacson focused on writing, opinion pieces, and development communication during the workshop[2].
The workshop, now in its seventh run, remains a free and community-driven initiative of the CLMA Pampanga. Santiago expressed the group's hope that the activity would help students become responsible members of the media industry[2].
The event was well-attended by campus journalists from Regina, the university's official student publication. Other media practitioners from various institutions in Pampanga also participated, making for a diverse and enriching learning environment[1].
The workshop is a testament to CLMA Pampanga's commitment to supporting the next generation of journalists, as they strive to develop skills and promote ethical standards in journalism. The event serves as a stepping stone for aspiring journalists, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to make a positive impact in the media industry.
