Park University's International Music Center to Hold Debut Concert by Orchestra on November 1st

The Park University International Center for Music (ICM) is set to kick off its 2024-25 concert season with a captivating event on Friday, November 1st, at 7:30 p.m. The concert, which will take place in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's Parkville Campus, will be under the direction of guest conductor Laura Jackson, D.M.A.

Laura Jackson, a Doctor of Musical Arts degree holder and a distinguished choral conductor, brings a wealth of experience to the podium. Her impressive career includes a notable stint as the first female assistant conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 2004-07. Since 2009, she has been the music director and conductor of the Reno Philharmonic, where she has expanded the community and education programs.

The concert program promises an enchanting blend of classical masterpieces. The evening will open with "Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048," by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by "Simple Symphony, Op.4," by Benjamin Britten. The program will culminate with "Serenade for Strings in E Major, Op.22," by Antonin Dvorak.

In a separate event, the ICM strings studios students will present a recital on Thursday, November 14th, starting at 7:30 p.m. This recital will take place at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kan. The strings studios at the International Center for Music are led by Ben Sayevich, violin, Daniel Veis, cello, and Chung-Hoon Peter Chun, viola.

Under Jackson's leadership, the Reno Philharmonic's education programs have been expanded to include Composers In Residence, Conduct Us, movies with live orchestra performances, and Play for a Day.
