Professor Petra Anders Wins €50K Communicator Prize for Innovative Language Teaching
The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Stifterverband have awarded the prestigious Communicator Prize to Professor Dr. Petra Anders of Humboldt University Berlin. Anders, who specializes in German language teaching and its didactics in primary education, received the €50,000 prize for her outstanding science communication efforts.
Anders' innovative approach to language teaching, known as multimodality, has shown promising results in promoting cultural self-expression and reading comprehension among primary school students. The jury commended her for understanding participation as interaction and engaging in challenging spaces such as schools in socially disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Anders' creative formats, including the 'Praxisschock-Slam' at the GRIPS Theater in Berlin, have sparked dialogue about pressing questions around school and education policy. She successfully makes her research accessible to non-scientific target groups, including students, artists, children, and teachers. The prize money will support Anders in her future endeavors and help implement new projects.
The Communicator Award, the most important of its kind in Germany, recognizes scientists for exceptional creativity in science communication. Professor Dr. Petra Anders' win highlights the significance of her work in promoting literacy and language skills in primary education and engaging diverse communities in the education debate.
