Quest for the New Leader at Syracuse University: Chancellor and President Positions Up for Grabs

Syracuse University Kicks Off Search for New Chancellor

Syracuse University has officially begun its search for a new chancellor, marking a significant milestone in the institution's more than 150-year history. The search process is being led by a committee, co-chaired by Shelly Fisher '80 and Lisa Fontenelli '86, and assisted by search firm Spencer Stuart.

The search committee welcomes all members of the Syracuse University community to participate in the process. The committee consists of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees, reflecting the University's diverse and vibrant community.

The ideal candidate for the position should honor Syracuse University's traditions of academic excellence, Orange spirit, and inclusivity. The new chancellor is expected to be an inspiring, innovative, and strategic leader, who will position the institution for continued success in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape.

The search committee seeks community input to help develop a position profile for the future chancellor. An online survey will be available soon for community input on the future chancellor. Feedback, suggestions, and nominations can be submitted to [email protected].

The full list of search committee members will be announced by Sept. 19. The University community is invited to participate in engagement sessions, both in-person and virtually. A calendar of engagement sessions can be found on Syracuse University News.

Chancellor Syverud has served Syracuse University with commitment, thoughtfulness, and innovation. As he prepares to step down, the University expresses its gratitude for his leadership and looks forward to finding his successor.

The new chancellor will be the 13th in the University's history. The community is encouraged to support the search process for the new chancellor, as Syracuse University embarks on this exciting new chapter.
