The Mainz University of Applied Sciences is set to make a splash at the 2024 Rosenmontag parade with an innovative and interactive carnival float. Dubbed the "Helau-o-Mat," the float is a product of a unique university project, involving three groups of 11 students from the fields of technology, business, and design.

The float, scheduled to debut at the parade in Mainz, Germany, is designed to resemble a Mainz carnival cap, a fitting tribute to the city's vibrant carnival culture. One of the float's standout features is its interactivity. When the crowd on the sidewalk gets loud, the LED panels on the float will move upwards, creating a lively spectacle. Moreover, when there's enough noise, the large carnival cap on the float and the caps on the students' heads will inflate, adding an extra element of excitement.

Sustainability is at the heart of the Helau-o-Mat's design. The float is designed to produce minimal waste, with no confetti or candy being distributed. Instead, students can donate old clothes in carnival colours for the Rosenmontag parade costumes, promoting waste reduction.

The final phase of the float construction will begin at the end of January. The students will pull the float using muscle power, showcasing their dedication and hard work. The float will also feature LED panels, adding a touch of modern technology to the traditional carnival setting.

The project aims to involve all 5,500 students of the university, fostering a sense of community and shared achievement. Despite limited information available online about the specifics of the project, it is clear that the Helau-o-Mat carnival float is set to be a testament to the university's commitment to innovative design, interactivity, and sustainability.
