Rajasthan Board releases English Compulsory Syllabus for Class 12th in 2025-26; obtain the PDF version at no cost
The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has recently unveiled the updated syllabus for Class 12 English Compulsory, effective from the 2025-2026 academic year. The revised syllabus is structured into three main sections: Reading, Writing, and Literature, designed to align with contemporary educational standards and reflect current academic trends.
In the **Reading** section, students are expected to familiarise themselves with two unseen passages, which may be factual, discursive, or literary in nature. Questions will focus on comprehension and vocabulary skills, varying in type and marks.
The **Writing** section encompasses a range of writing skills, including advertisements, notices, report writing, and letter writing. Students will be assessed on their ability to write clear, concise, and well-structured pieces.
The **Grammar** section covers essential topics such as clauses (noun, adverb, relative), synthesis, phrasal verbs, prepositions of motion, time, space, and mental attitude. These topics are crucial for improving sentence structure and vocabulary usage.
The primary textbooks for this course are **Flamingo** and **Vistas**, both from NCERT. **Flamingo** questions will include two short answer questions on lessons, one reference question, and one long answer type question. **Vistas** questions will include two short answer questions, one long answer type question, and six multiple-choice questions.
The updated syllabus also includes one long answer type question based on the text in the Flamingo-Poetry section, to be answered in about 60 words. Similarly, one long answer type question based on lessons will be included, requiring responses in approximately 60 words. Two short answer type questions will be included in the Flamingo-Poetry and Vistas sections, to be answered in 20-30 words.
The Vistas section of the updated syllabus includes one out of two long answer type questions based on the Supplementary Reader. Section B of the updated syllabus includes writing tasks such as short compositions, reports on events, and letters. Section D of the updated syllabus includes textbooks, specifically Flamingo-Prose.
Teachers are advised to review the new syllabus to adjust lesson plans and teaching methodologies. The marks distribution for the subject is as follows: Reading (15 marks), Writing (14 marks), Grammar (10 marks), Text Book (Flamingo - 25 marks), Supp. Book (Vistas - 16 marks). The exam is divided into theory and sessional marks, with a total of 100 marks. The paper duration is 3 hours and 15 minutes.
