Reflections for the Beginning of the Fresh Kindergarten and School Term
As the new school year begins, children across the city are accompanied by educators, social pedagogues, social workers, and teachers, each playing a crucial role in shaping the future of our society.
Claudia Salwik, spokesperson on equal opportunities for the SPD city council fraction, emphasizes the significance of these professions. She highlights that they are not only system-relevant but also essential for promoting social justice and fostering inclusion in society.
Salwik argues that by not investing in these areas, society is cheating itself out of the desire for equal opportunities and promoting social inequality. She believes that education and welfare cost money, but the money supposedly saved will have to be paid back many times over in the end.
Orientation in daycare centers for the new first-graders started a week earlier, giving them a head start to adjust to their new environment. Salwik wishes all children, young people, and their families an exciting and confident start to the kindergarten and school year.
She also extends her appreciation to the staff in schools and kindergartens, wishing them patience and strength for the coming year. Salwik hopes that despite all the stress and cuts, the collegial atmosphere helps staff stay healthy. She thanks them for still coming to work under these conditions.
The new school year marks a new, exciting chapter in the lives of children, parents, and families. However, it also comes with challenges, such as a massive staff shortage, cut services, reduced working hours, and steadily increasing demand. Salwik wishes that, despite these obstacles, staff can still feel effective in their work.
If school social work, full-day care, child daycare, youth welfare are not given financial breathing room, resources to network and act, it could lead to deficits that will cost more to compensate in the future. By not investing in these areas of activity, generations of children are being cheated out of their future.
Investing in education and welfare is not just about providing opportunities for individual children; it's about investing in the future of our society. By supporting these professions, we are investing in development opportunities, both individual and societal.
As we embark on this new school year, let us remember the crucial role these professions play in our society and strive to support them in their mission to provide equitable opportunities for all children.
- Claudia Salwik, advocating for equal opportunities, asserts that education, social work, and youth welfare professionals are not only vital for fostering social justice and inclusion, but also for shaping a better future lifestyle.
