Wiesbaden Launches Swim Project for Refugee Children

Wiesbaden, Germany, is taking a bold step towards supporting refugee children with a new community initiative. The project, a collaboration between civil society, administration, and sports clubs, aims to teach refugee children and young people to swim safely.

The project received appreciation from Dr. Becher, representing the Magistrate and the City Administration of Wiesbaden, who praised the exceptional commitment of all those involved. The initiative is expected to provide participants with self-confidence, participation, and joy.

Qualified trainers from Wiesbaden Swimming Club will conduct the swimming lessons. For children aged 5 to 8, a further round of swimming courses will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen. Meanwhile, swimming courses for refugee children aged 10 to 15 will commence on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool.

The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., the project's organizers, view societal engagement as a conviction, not an obligation. The project is funded by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. for ten children. The municipal social and administrative services will ensure the target group's participation.

The project is part of Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V.'s commitment to education, integration, and equal opportunities. Christoph Eichler, President of Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., expressed the initiative's importance from a sporting perspective.

Since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. has provided a new sporting home for a group of refugee Ukrainian elite swimmers. A symbolic handover of the project was conducted, with Dr. Patricia Becher, representing the Magistrate and the City Administration of Wiesbaden, present.

While specific details about the funding sources, scale, or measured impact on refugee integration are not currently available, it is clear that Wiesbaden is committed to providing opportunities for refugee children to learn essential life skills and foster social integration.

Citizens with questions about the project can contact the Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden for more information.
