🇲🇾 Rural Development Boost in Sabah: Electricity, Roads, and Education 🇲🇾

It's full steam ahead for rural development in Sabah, as the Malaysian government pours RM1.11 billion into projects designed to improve access, quality of life, and sustainability. Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, made the announcement recently, highlighting social infrastructure like electricity and water supply systems, as well as rural road construction, as key focuses [1][2][4].

Zahid pointed out the need for equitable development, particularly in terms of basic infrastructure, economic access, education, and digitalization. He underscored that the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development remains dedicated to implementing high-impact programs across Sabah to bridge these gaps [1][4].

When it comes to electricity, Zahid asserts that rural areas should experience the same reliability as urban ones. Likewise, rural infrastructure such as roads needs improvement [3].

To uplift rural children from an early age and ensure no one gets left behind, KKDW is implementing several high-impact early education initiatives, currently in the pilot phase. These include the Smart Classroom@KEMAS initiative, the PeliTa@KEMAS Program, and TABIKA Tunas Istimewa@KEMAS, which provides opportunities for children with special needs, especially those with autism [2].

The government is working on extending care and attention to Kemas nurseries and preschools, as well as Desa Community Centers, particularly in Sabah[2].

In addition, KKDW set aside RM1.06 million for community development and entrepreneurship programmes, and another RM1.27 million for skills education that will directly benefit Sabah's residents [2]. A portion of the budget is also going toward upgrading lifts and water tank systems for community housing projects [3].

Driving rural economic growth, KKDW is strengthening economic empowerment programs like the Mini Estet Sejahtera programme, the Desa Harapan programme, MADANI Rural Entrepreneurs initiative, and increasing the reach of Digital Economy Centres throughout rural Sabah [2].

In essence, the Malaysian government is dedicated to holistic development in Sabah. It's all about infrastructure improvements, economic empowerment, digital inclusion, and education to enhance the quality of life and economic opportunities for rural populations [1].
