Improvements in Education: Changes Afoot in Kolymsk for the 2025-2026 Academic Year

The Kolymsk region is set to undergo significant changes in its educational system for the upcoming academic year. Here's a rundown of the key developments:

Unified Schedule

Educational institutions in the Kolymsk region will adopt a unified daily and weekly schedule. This move aims to standardise lesson times and breaks across schools, improving coordination and streamlining educational processes.

History and Social Studies Courses

The curriculum content and teaching methods for history and social studies courses will see updates or revisions. The focus might include integrating more regional history and contemporary social topics relevant to the Kolymsk area.

Behavior Grades

A new or modified system for evaluating student behaviour will be introduced. Behaviour grades will be recorded and may influence students' overall assessment, fostering accountability and encouraging positive conduct.

Teacher Staffing

Changes in teacher staffing policies will take effect to ensure better qualification standards. These changes might include hiring criteria, professional development requirements, or redistribution of teaching staff to balance workloads across schools.

Special Classes

The organisation of special classes—such as remedial, advanced, or thematic groups—will be revised to better meet diverse student needs. This could involve new criteria for class formation, schedules, or the introduction of specialized programs.

These changes are aimed at enhancing the quality of education, ensuring consistency across schools, and better addressing student and regional educational needs in Kolymsk.

Preparation of Pedagogical Staff

The preparation of pedagogical staff in the Magadan region is conducted by the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "North-Eastern State University".

Teacher Recruitment

Starting September 1, 2025, another 4 "zemsky teachers" will begin their work. The quota for 2026 is 10 teachers. Over the past three years, the region has received 365 teachers, with 111 in rural and town schools and 152 in schools of Magadan city. The "Zemsky Teacher" program, implemented since January 2020, has brought 15 teachers to the region, specializing in various subjects.

Popular Specialties

At the College of Service and Technologies, the most popular specialties are "law" and "operational activities in logistics". The Magadan Polytechnic Technical School's most popular specialties are "information systems and programming", "geological surveying, exploration and mining of mineral resources", and "surveying".

Budget and Applications

There are 1460 budget places allocated in professional educational organizations, with 1743 applications received, of which 68% are from 2025 school graduates. The results of the admission campaign will be summarised on December 1, 2025, and applications are still being accepted at this time.

Schools in Olsky and Severo-Evensky

Schools with a student population of less than 10 will operate in the region during the 2025-2026 academic year, located in the Olsky and Severo-Evensky municipal districts.
