St. John's College welcomes its newly appointed chaplain

**New Chaplain Appointed at St John's College**

Revd Dr Liz Kent has been announced as the new Chaplain at St John's College in Durham, effective from 1 September 2022, subject to the usual checks.

With a strong background in the Anglican tradition and extensive experience in local churches across the North East, Dr Kent brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding to her new role. She will offer support to staff, students, and faculty, providing spiritual and pastoral care, leading worship services, and facilitating interfaith dialogue.

Dr Kent's appointment was welcomed by Dr Rebecca Bouveng, Vice Principal of St John's College, who praised her combination of lively faith and deep compassion, stating that she believes these qualities will make Dr Kent an effective Chaplain across the whole College community.

Revd Dr Philip Plyming, Warden of Cranmer Hall, also expressed his pleasure at Dr Kent's appointment, highlighting her commitment to theological education and her expertise in the field.

Dr Kent, who read law at Liverpool University before training for ordained Methodist ministry at the Wesley Study Centre in St John's College, has undertaken doctoral study on the church and eating disorders. She will continue in her role as part-time Director of the Wesley Study Centre alongside her new Chaplain responsibilities.

Since ordination, Dr Kent has served in local churches, and she is looking forward to working across the whole College community in her new role. She will coordinate the worshipping life of St John's College, fostering reflection and ethical discussions relevant to academic life.
