Strengthening Measures to Deter Drug Abuse Among Adolescents and Youth in Sochi

Sochi is on the move, taking robust measures to combat drug abuse among the youth, part of the regional anti-drug crusade that kicked off on June 1. This was the hot topic at a recent anti-drug commission meeting, where municipal representatives gathered.
Chaired by Krasnodar Krai Deputy Governor Alexander Vlasov, the meeting delved into early detection of dependencies, provision of medical and psychological support, and the fruits of preventive medical examinations and social-psychological testing.
Alexander Vlasov emphasized, "Detecting dependencies in teenagers and youth, medical and psychological aid, and family support are our top priorities in the ongoing anti-drug struggle."
It was highlighted during the meeting that over 414k schoolkids and students were subjected to social-psychological testing the previous academic year. The army of volunteer units, numbering 225 and boasting over 6,700 members, plays a crucial role in prevention work. They coordinate and educate minors on drug dangers through thematic events.
Sochi is actively participating in the regional program, too.
Elena Kanjuk, Deputy Mayor of Sochi, shared, "The Anti-Drug Commission of Sochi is working hard to inform the public about the legal and medical repercussions of drug use. Our focus is on anti-drug events geared towards minors and youth. During the anti-drug month, we have 15 events planned to reach over 70k folks."
Interdepartmental collaboration, including events for parents with minor children, is a key focus.
From June 20 to 26, Sochi will hold a preventive action titled "Clean City - No Drugs," dedicated to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. During this action, participants from public organizations, managing companies, and youth movements will join forces to paint over graffiti carrying drug-related content on city infrastructure objects, demonstrating active civic spirit and a commitment to creating a healthier, safer environment for the younger generation.
