String students from the International Center for Music at Park University will be giving a performance on November 14th.
On Thursday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m., the Park University International Center for Music (ICM) will host an enchanting string recital at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kan. This event is set to feature an array of captivating performances, spanning classical to contemporary works.
The featured artist for this special occasion is renowned violinist Shmuel Askenasi. Known for his boundary-defying performances that captivate audiences worldwide, Askenasi promises an unforgettable evening of music.
The program for the recital includes eight solo performances, a violin duet, and the Park Quartet. The Park Quartet, consisting of Farquhar, Mukhiddinov, dos Santos, and Turgunov, will accompany most of the performances, except for those by the Park Quartet themselves.
Violinist Yin-Shiuan Ting will perform the first movement of "Violin Concerto No. 1 in F-Sharp Minor, Op. 14" by Henryk Wieniawski. Cellist James Farquhar will captivate the audience with "Kol Nidrei, Op. 47," composed by Max Bruch. Violist Victor Diaz will perform "Two Romances for Viola and Piano" composed by Adolphus Hailstork III, while cellist Diyorbek Nortojiev will entertain with "Hungarian Rhapsody, Op. 68," composed by David Popper.
A distinguished cellist with numerous prestigious accolades, Daniel Veis, will also grace the stage with his performances. Violinist Ben Sayevich and violist Chung-Hoon Peter Chun, both renowned in their respective fields, will round off this diverse lineup of talented musicians.
Admission for the concert is free, making it an accessible event for all music lovers. For those interested in securing tickets for the concert, they can be purchased through Eventbrite at $30 for the general public and $10 for students.
Following the string recital, the next performance in the ICM's 2024-25 season will be the Park ICM Orchestra's holiday concert under Steven McDonald's direction. This event will take place at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's flagship Parkville Campus on Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 7:30 p.m.
As an educator, Chun has shared his knowledge and expertise with students, shaping the future of classical music. Askenasi, too, has left a significant impact on the classical music scene, with his captivating performances transcending geographical boundaries.
