Students at the University of Washington will flock to the New North Hall and Dining Center this Friday for their grand opening.
The University of Wyoming is set to unveil its latest addition, the North Residence Hall and Dining Center, on Aug. 15. This modern, state-of-the-art building, designed as a hub for living, dining, and connecting, will offer 410 student beds and a variety of amenities [3].
At the heart of the complex is a two-story dining hall, boasting nine diverse food stations that cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary needs [1][3][5]. Here's a sneak peek at the dining offerings:
- The Ranch: Burgers, sandwiches, and hearty sides with down-home flavors.
- Prexy’s Pasture Salad Bar: Plant-forward, farm-to-table options.
- The Spice Road: Pan Asian cuisine blending flavors from across Asia.
- Sabor: Central and South American rustic and refined dishes.
- The Extra Mile: Healthy, wholesome meals with a focus on allergen sensitivity.
- Mangia!: Italian American favorites, including scratch-made sauces and pizzas.
- Americana: Classic comfort dishes.
- Etcetera: Protein-focused meals and curated snacks.
- The Bucking Horse Bakery: Freshly made desserts and baked goods supplied by an on-site bakery [1][3][5].
Meal plan options have been simplified to include a five-day and a seven-day unlimited meal plan for students living on campus. Faculty, staff, and off-campus students can also purchase commuter meal plans. The dining center welcomes visitors without meal plans, who can pay $12.99 for full access to all nine stations during lunch and dinner [1][3].
The new North Hall will also feature a laundry room on the first floor and common spaces designed for flexibility and longevity, reflecting a blend of traditional sandstone exterior and modern steel construction [1].
The $285.5 million project, the largest construction on the UW campus, was made possible through $205.8 million in bonds issued by the university, supplemented by about $80 million in legislative appropriations. The new halls are centrally located next to the Wyoming Union and Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center [2].
Construction began in November 2022 and was carried out by Denver-Based JE Dunn Construction. The new residence halls mark the first new facilities for UW students in the last 60 years [2].
The dining center is led by executive chefs Mathew Branson and Kunal Sinha, who head a dedicated and creative team of chefs and cooks. The North Residence Hall and Dining Center aim to enhance campus life by providing an inviting dining experience alongside comfortable living spaces for students and the broader university community [3][5].
