The Indian Institute of Art & Design recently showcased a unique heritage-centric, sustainable art installation named 'Shamiana' at the Craft & Design Exchange Forum, held at the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design (ABCD). The event, which took place on April 6-7, 2024, was held at the Red Fort premises and served as a crucial platform for advancing India's handicraft heritage, particularly those with Geographical Indication (GI) certification. The Shamiana installation, a contribution by the students of the Indian Institute of Art & Design, was inspired by traditional crafts and fostered a spirit of collaboration and innovation in design. It was showcased within the Craft & Design Exchange Forum, which is a significant event within the ABCD. The ABCD, established by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), celebrates India's handicraft heritage and serves as a platform for advancing the heritage and culture economy. The founder of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design is Rajeev Sethi. The Shamiana installation was a highlight of the forum, showcasing the potential of sustainable and heritage-centric design. It offered a glimpse into the future of art and design, while also paying homage to India's rich cultural heritage. The Craft & Design Exchange Forum provided an excellent opportunity for artists, designers, and craftspeople to come together, share their work, and collaborate on new projects. The event was a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in preserving and promoting India's cultural heritage.
