Sudan Clashes: Deadly Attacks, Displacement as SAF and RSF Conflict Escalates
Clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have escalated, with deadly attacks and shelling reported across the country. The international conflict has led to deaths, displacement, and severe shortages in affected areas.
On Sunday, RSF shelling of the Abu Shouk displacement camp in North Darfur resulted in at least 14 fatalities. The attack targeted a market, mosques, and homes near public facilities. A full assessment of the damage and deaths is hindered by ongoing security concerns.
In western White Nile State, RSF launched consecutive attacks on villages, looting consumer goods, livestock, money, phones, and satellite internet devices. At least one person was killed in these raids.
The fighting has intensified in Darfur and Kordofan, with both sides launching attacks on military installations. SAF carried out airstrikes on military installations in Nyala, including the international airport. Meanwhile, RSF continues to run institutions in Nyala, detaining or killing those who oppose them.
In North Darfur, SAF took control of the Attrun area from the RSF. However, RSF drone attacks on Port Sudan persist, exacerbating fuel and gas shortages in the city.
The conflict in Ghadeer, South Kordofan, has displaced an estimated 318 households, with tensions remaining high between SAF and RSF.
The escalating international conflict between SAF and RSF has led to a significant loss of life, displacement, and disruption of essential services. The international community is urged to monitor the situation closely and provide assistance where needed.
