Lower Franconia, Germany – A substitute teacher was sentenced to a two-year prison term, suspended for five years, by the Hassfurt District Court for allegedly filming naked elementary school children in changing rooms of a swimming pool. The 30-year-old defendant was also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service and undergo therapy.
The conviction for invasion of privacy and personality rights, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography in 13 cases and 12 cases, respectively, is not yet final. The convictions involve recordings made between May and December 2023, mainly of six- to twelve-year-old boys but also girls, with some children being filmed naked.
Initially facing a total custodial sentence of two years and five months, the defendant narrowly avoided prison. The Public Prosecutor's Office had demanded this sentence, while the co-plaintiffs' representatives sought a sentence more than two years long, which would have made probation ineligible. The defense had requested a probation-eligible sentence.
At the start of the trial, the defendant made extensive statements regarding the allegations, but it remains unclear whether he admitted the acts. The unaware children were filmed during swimming and sports lessons at a school in the Hassberge district, where the defendant worked as supervision.
Following a warning from the USA, the police became aware of the man, who is said to have created child pornographic image collages from the recorded videos.
