Technical University of Manmohan Unveils Five-year Visionary Strategy

Manmohan Technical University (MTU), located in Biratnagar, Nepal, is set to broaden its scope with a series of new developments. Established in 2019, the university aims to produce skilled professionals across various sectors, including Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Forestry, and Nursing[1].

In line with its five-year plan, MTU is set to open multiple constituent colleges throughout Province 1, enhancing regional education infrastructure[1]. The university will offer diverse programs, ranging from foundational technical training to higher education in specialized fields such as engineering and healthcare sectors (pharmacy, nursing)[1].

The university's focus on practical fields like engineering, pharmacy, nursing, and hospital management strongly implies strategic alignment with those sectors. In this regard, the university has agreed to produce the necessary skilled manpower according to the suggestions of entrepreneurs in the region to support the industrialization of the province[2].

MTU has also announced plans to start conducting civil engineering and electrical engineering programs towards communication engineering and education[3]. From this academic year, the university will admit 48 students for civil engineering and 24 students for electrical and electronics engineering[3].

In addition, the university has decided to start teaching public health subjects required by industrial pharmacy and the World Health Organization under the School of Medicine and Elite Health Sciences[4]. The university has also announced the introduction of Bachelor in Architecture and MSc in Structural Engineering at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels respectively, by the academic year 2083/87[5].

To further its interdisciplinary expansion, MTU has established a Manmohan Institute of Law under its umbrella[6]. The university has also requested the provincial government to provide a 100-bed hospital in the district for the production of doctors in the future[7].

Dr. Subashree Pokharel serves as the Vice Chancellor of the university, while Dr. Prachandaman Pradhan is the Dean of the School of Engineering[8]. Dr. Dinanath Phuyal holds the position of Registrar, but no new information about him is provided[9].

The university operates three schools: Engineering, Applied Science and Technology, and School of Medicine and Elite Health Sciences[10]. MTU's education system is designed to produce self-reliant and production-oriented manpower[11]. The university aspires to become the best in South Asia within the next ten years[12].
