Texas Instruments India and The Akshaya Patra Foundation Continue to Empower Children Through Nutrition

The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a social impact organization dedicated to addressing classroom hunger and supporting children's health and education, has been making a significant impact in India for over two decades. With the support of Texas Instruments India, they have been able to serve over 4 billion meals since 2000 and currently provide 2.35 million mid-day meals to beneficiary children across 25,000+ schools.

The partnership between Texas Instruments India and The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which began around 2013, has been instrumental in supporting the educational aspirations of children in Karnataka. Over the past decade, this collaboration has sponsored tens of thousands of meals daily, with the latest figure revealing that 40,000 student meals are provided through their joint efforts.

The collaboration extends beyond meal sponsorship, with Texas Instruments India contributing towards TAPF's capital infrastructure. Since 2014, they have funded at least 11 food delivery vehicles and essential kitchen vessels, which help expand the Foundation’s capacity to distribute meals efficiently. This infrastructure support benefits approximately 8,000 children daily, enhancing food distribution logistics and thereby supporting educational attendance and retention in Karnataka schools.

Texas Instruments India's leaders recently visited a government school where they recognized top-performing students and teachers and served mid-day meals to students. The occasion was marked by the unveiling of a symbolic 'Thank You TI' wall, acknowledging TI's hands-on commitment to corporate citizenship.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation operates in 78 locations across 16 states and 3 union territories, using state-of-the-art centralized kitchens with automated cooking processes and efficient last-mile delivery logistics. In some locations with difficult terrain and road connectivity, they have adopted a decentralized model.

The Foundation's centralized kitchens, globally recognized for their scale, efficiency, and food safety standards, have played a crucial role in advancing food security and educational opportunities for schoolchildren. This was highlighted in FY 2023-24, when TI funded two new food distribution vehicles and vessels for the VK Hill kitchen, benefiting 8,000 students daily.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation continues to forge partnerships and leverage technology to cater to millions of children. Their operations are not limited to Karnataka, as they serve meals in 78 locations, benefiting millions of children across India. In addition to the mid-day meals, they also provide 8 lakh servings under the Morning Nutrition Programme.

Recently, the milestone of serving over 4 billion meals was commemorated at a special event at the UN headquarters in New York on 2 April 2024. This achievement underscores the impact of the Foundation's work and the importance of partnerships in achieving their mission to overcome classroom hunger.
